FIRE PREVENTION

Use Candles With Care

  • Candles must be used in sturdy metal, glass or ceramic holders where they cannot be knocked down
  • Keep out of reach of children. Children never should play with matches, lighters or candles
  • Never sleep, or leave the house with a candle burning. Never leave a candle unattended

Working Together for Home Fire Safety

  • Have a working Smoke Alarm on every level of your home. Remember to change batteries 2x a year with the time change

  • Never overload electrical circuits or extension cords

  • I.E. do not plug in an electric heater in the same circuit as your home computer system

  • Keep clothes, curtains and other potentially combustible items three feet from all heaters

  • Plan your escape route and practice it

SAFETY REMINDERS

  • SAFETY TIP: Practice using your smoke alarm with everyone sleeping to ensure the location is appropriate for all to hear

  • NEVER cook with pot handles extended outward. Point them inward so that little children cannot reach up and touch them

  • NEVER allow children to play around space heaters, irons, hair dryers, etc

  • Fireplace Owners: Have your chimney cleaned annually
