On January 13, 1892, by the request of the Breese Village President, Henry Hummert, "A MEETING WAS CALLED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ORGANIZING A FIRE COMPANY FOR THE VILLAGE OF BREESE." The fire department would be called the Breese Volunteer fire Department No. 1. Seventeen Men were selected to become the first members of the fire department for the Village of Breese. James Ward, Hy Scheer, Fritz Dorries, Jr, Lawrence Deien, John Schwartz, Herman Deien, Fritz Breidenbach, George Deien, George Kapp, Hy. Holtmann, W. Brinkman, William Geers, Daniel Needham, Adolph Hoffmann, John Schroeder, Henry Dieker, and William Perkes Each Member had to pay an entry fee of Fifty Cents and monthly dues of Ten Cents. Breese Volunteer Fire Department 1895 The first Breese Fire house (station) was completed on October 27, 1892. A frame building with a tower and bell, the fire house was built behind where the Beyond the Garden Gate at 290 North Clinton Street. The bell used at the first fire house is the same bell that is located on the top of the current fire department building at 50 North Germantown Road. On April 18, 1898, Chief Daniel Needham went to Columbus, Ohio (for $29.65) to purchase a Hook and Ladder Wagon for the Department. The total cost of the new Hook and Ladder Wagon, to be pulled by horses, was $502.50 plus $22.50 freight. 1918 Republic Breese's First Fire Truck
